Overview

Shopify Dev Tools is a browser extension that helps Shopify theme developers by providing quick access to preview URLs, admin links, and theme information. This policy explains how the extension handles your data.

Data Collection

Shopify Dev Tools does NOT collect any personal data.

The extension does not:

• Collect, store, or transmit any user information
• Use cookies or tracking technologies
• Send data to any external server or third-party service
• Require user accounts or authentication
• Access browsing history beyond the active tab

How the Extension Works

When you click the extension icon on a Shopify store page, it reads publicly available JavaScript variables (window.Shopify, ShopifyAnalytics) on that page to extract:

• Store domain
• Theme name and ID
• Page type and resource information

This data is used only within the popup UI to generate links and display information. It is never stored, logged, or transmitted anywhere. Once you close the popup, the data is discarded.

Permissions

• activeTab — Allows the extension to access the current tab only when you click the extension icon.
• clipboardWrite — Allows copying text (URLs, theme names) to your clipboard.
• scripting — Allows injecting a script to read Shopify page variables on custom-domain stores.

Data Storage

The extension stores no data whatsoever — no local storage, no sync storage, no files. Each interaction is stateless.

Third-Party Services

The extension does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at the same URL with a new "Last updated" date.
